Shoe-tying

Teaching children how to tie their own shoes is one way to help young children learn self-reliance. When they learn self-reliance
they may be open to trying new things on their own and can develop into more independent, capable, and skilled children, teens, and adults.

This skill is an important milestone for children and teens! There are multiple benefits to teaching children how to tie their shoes. It helps to improve their fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, bilateral coordination, and dexterity.

In addition to these physical benefits, stimulating their independence leads to an increased confidence in their own abilities which could lead to benefits in their social lives as well.

Fine Motor Skills & Hand Strength

Often children utilize the incorrect grasp which leads to fatigue and poor pencil control causing illegible handwriting and increased frustration during homework tasks.

I will provide your child with skills to improve their handwriting which includes but are not limited to:  letter formation/letter sizing/line regard/word spacing as well as near point and far point copying.  I will work to increase your child's intrinsic hand strength, upper body strength as well as core strength which are imperative to achieving appropriate handwriting skills.

Activities include a variety of fine motor tasks to improve grasping patterns, bilateral coordination skills, and self -help tasks such as buttoning and zippering.
